Drop-In Costume Construction & Sewing Support
Have an ambitious costume idea and absolutely no idea how you’re going to pull it off? Bring it to LullCo.
Drop-In Costume Construction & Sewing Support is open studio time for anyone working on a Halloween costume, cosplay, theatrical costume, or other wearable creation who could use some extra hands, tools, space, or know-how.
This isn’t a formal sewing class and you don’t need to arrive with a perfectly planned project. Bring your pattern, half-finished costume, thrift-store finds, pile of fabric, inspiration photo, or wildly ambitious idea and we’ll help you figure out what comes next.
Depending on your project, we can help with sewing and machine basics, pattern questions, fitting and alterations, hems and closures, costume construction, attaching trims and embellishments, working with unusual materials, and creative problem-solving when the thing in your head isn’t quite matching the thing on your body.
You Don’t Have to Know How to Sew
Seriously.
If your costume requires sewing and you’ve never touched a sewing machine, we can help you get started. If you already know your way around a machine but can’t figure out a particular construction problem, we can help with that too.
The goal is to give you access to the tools, workspace, equipment, and support you need to make your costume yourself—with someone nearby when you inevitably need to ask, “Okay…how do I attach THIS to THAT?”
What Should I Bring?
Bring your costume or project, any fabric or materials you’ve already purchased, patterns if you’re using them, and reference photos or inspiration images.
Don’t have everything yet? That’s okay too. We can help you figure out what you need and make a plan before you start cutting into anything important.
LullCo has sewing machines, worktables, tools, and plenty of room to spread out and make a mess.
All skill levels are welcome—from first-time sewists to experienced makers who just need better equipment, more space, or another creative brain in the room.
Come for a little help, stay and work, and leave a whole lot closer to having something you can actually wear.
