LEARN CHAINSTITCH EMBROIDERY!

Chainstitch Embroidery Machine Demo

Curious about chainstitch embroidery? Come see how it works on our 100 year old restored Chainstitch Embroidery Machine!

This free introductory demo is a quick, hands-on introduction to our chainstitch embroidery machine. Chainstitch is a free-motion embroidery technique where you guide the fabric by hand crank to create lettering, drawings, patterns, and decorative stitching. It takes some practice to master, which is exactly why we want to give you a chance to try it before jumping into a bigger project.

During the demo, we’ll walk through the basics of threading the machine, operating the controls, starting and stopping your stitches, and moving the fabric to “draw” with thread. You’ll get to watch the machine in action and then take a short turn at the machine yourself.

Each participant will have the opportunity to practice by stitching their name or initials, giving you a small sample to take home and a feel for how the machine responds. Bring your own bandanna or small garment if you would like to use that, or we will provide a piece of felt for you to use. Caution: There is a learning curve, so bring material you are comfortable with practicing on.

What You’ll Learn

You’ll be introduced to:

  • How to thread the chainstitch machine

  • Basic machine operation and controls

  • How to start and stop your stitching

  • How to guide the fabric and control direction

  • Basic lettering and free-motion techniques

  • How to safely use the machine in the studio

This Is a Demo, Not a Full Project Class

Because we currently have one chainstitch machine and there is a learning curve to operating it, this event is designed as a short demonstration and introduction rather than a full workshop. Everyone will get a chance to try the machine, but we won’t be completing larger embroidery projects during the demo.

The goal is to give you enough instruction and hands-on experience to understand how the machine works and decide whether you’d like to spend more time with it.

Want to Make Something Bigger?

After attending the demo, participants are encouraged to schedule studio time and continue practicing on their own projects. Bring in a jacket, tote, patch, fabric panel, or another idea and start experimenting!

Chainstitch rewards practice, and studio time gives you the opportunity to slow down, get comfortable with the controls, and develop your own lettering and drawing style.

Cost: FREE
Experience Level: No experience necessary
Materials: Provided for the demo
Take Home: Your own chainstitched name or initials

Come try the machine, learn the basics, and discover a whole new way to draw with thread.
